Riverstone Collection

Scroll to discover its originEvery Riverstone bathtub, vessel sink and accessory is hand-carved from volcanic basalt, a dense, solid rock born from the fire of the islands of Java and Bali. Each stone carries the story of the volcano that created it.
Basalt forms when molten magma cools rapidly on contact with the air. Our pieces come from the volcanic islands of Java and Bali, in Indonesia, part of the famous Ring of Fire, one of the most volcanically active regions on Earth.
During the rainy season, water rushing down the slopes forms temporary rivers. With the force of the current, basalt rocks break away from the volcano and begin their journey downstream.
The stones tumble with the force of the water. Every strike against the riverbed and against other stones softens their edges a little more. That is why each one has a unique, organic shape that no mold can repeat.
What remains is a dry riverbed full of rounded stones: a river of stones without water. This is when the local government authorizes their collection for craftsmanship, and artisans choose the stones that will become bathtubs, sinks and accessories.
Hence the name: Riverstone.
The Riverstone Collection is Marmer Butik’s line of bathtubs, vessel sinks and bath accessories hand-carved from river stone, the volcanic basalt of the islands of Java and Bali, in Indonesia. The stones form when magma cools on contact with the air, travel down the slopes with the rains, are rounded by temporary rivers and are collected from the dry riverbed with authorization from the local government. Every piece is one of a kind.
Updated November 2026.Each piece is hand-carved from a single stone collected from the dry riverbed, preserving the shape the river gave it. Four families, all in volcanic basalt from Java and Bali.

A whole stone, hollowed out to sit on your countertop.

A single-stone pedestal standing directly on the floor.

Carved from one solid block of river stone.

Soap dishes, dispensers and candle holders in the same stone.
Every stone is unique. Product photos show the model; your piece will have its own shape, tones and texture.
It is basalt, a volcanic rock from the islands of Java and Bali, in Indonesia. During the rainy season the rocks break away from the volcano slopes and are rounded by the river. River stone, riverstone and volcanic basalt are the same material.
Because the shape comes from nature. Each stone was shaped by the impacts downstream, and the artisan carves the piece respecting that shape.
From the beds of the temporary rivers of Java and Bali. In the dry season, when the water disappears, the local government authorizes the collection of stones for craftsmanship.
