Product description

Petrified (Fossilized) Wood Vessel Sink — Semi-Precious Stone Over 20 Million Years Old — 43 x 32 x 15 cm (17 x 13 x 6 in) | FSB2509041

The FSB2509041 petrified wood vessel sink is one of the rarest and most extraordinary pieces in the Marmer Butik collection: a sink hand-carved from a trunk of petrified (fossilized) wood over 20 million years old, originating from the prehistoric tropical forests of Indonesia. Measuring 43 x 32 x 15 cm (17 x 13 x 6 in) and weighing 37 kg (82 lb), this countertop vessel sink is not just a decorative piece. It is an authentic natural fossil, classified as a semi-precious stone, carrying millions of years of the Earth's geological history.

Petrified wood is one of the materials most coveted by the world's leading interior designers, and owning a sink in this material means having at home a piece that could be on display in a natural history museum. Every sink is absolutely one of a kind: the growth rings, veins, knots and fossilized patterns can never be repeated, which guarantees that no one else in the world owns a sink like yours. It is one of the natural stone sinks most sought after by architects and interior designers for the most exclusive projects and signature spaces.

The Origin — 20 Million Years of Natural History

To understand the value of this piece, you need to understand its extraordinary formation. More than 20 million years ago, a tropical forest in Indonesia was buried under a thick layer of volcanic ash, entombing the trees in conditions that prevented decomposition. Over millions of years, a natural process of mineralization gradually replaced the organic matter of the wood with minerals such as silica and quartz, turning the trunks into solid stone while preserving the growth rings, veins, knots and original texture of the wood.

The result is a material classified as a semi-precious stone, with a hardness similar to quartz, that combines the organic beauty of wood with the strength and permanence of stone. Every petrified wood sink is, quite literally, a fragment of a prehistoric forest immortalized in stone, an absolute rarity of nature.

Handcrafted Finish — Fossilized Beauty Revealed

The creation process is entirely by hand. Master artisans carve each sink manually, respecting the natural shapes of the fossilized trunk. The interior receives a high-precision polish that sharply reveals the growth rings and veins of the original wood, now immortalized in stone, with a soft, elegant sheen that makes cleaning and daily use easy.

The exterior may feature the natural texture of the petrified bark or a semi-polished finish, preserving the authenticity and visual history of the fossil. The tones vary naturally between brown, beige, caramel, grey and reddish hues, with absolutely unique patterns in every piece, a color palette created by nature itself over millions of years.

Who is this sink for?

  • Collector's Powder Room: A petrified wood sink is the most exclusive piece a powder room can have, a 20-million-year-old fossil that becomes the absolute talking point among your guests.
  • Master En-Suite Bathroom: Elevates the main bathroom to an incomparable level of exclusivity, a museum piece you use every day.
  • High-End Projects and Architect-Designed Homes: Petrified wood is the definitive material for architects and designers seeking truly unique pieces with a history spanning millions of years.
  • Luxury Spas and 5-Star Resorts: Conveys a deep sensory experience of connection with nature and with time, perfect for wellness and relaxation spaces.
  • Covered Outdoor Areas: The durability of petrified wood allows it to be used in sheltered outdoor spaces such as verandas, decks and pool areas.
  • Boutique Hotels and Exclusive Commercial Spaces: Sets bathrooms apart with a piece no competitor can replicate; every sink is an unrepeatable fossil.

Which Faucet Pairs with This Petrified Wood Sink?

Because this is a countertop vessel sink in petrified wood, the choice of faucet is essential to harmonize the ensemble and showcase the ancient beauty of the piece:

  • Tall vessel faucet (recommended): Delivers a comfortable, centered flow of water without splashing; minimum height of 22 cm (8.7 in) for a sink of this size.
  • Wall-mounted faucet: A clean, sophisticated look that frees up counter space and highlights the sculptural presence of the fossil.
  • Aged bronze and copper: Create an organic harmony that speaks to the natural earthy tones of the petrified wood, a cinematic combination.
  • Matte black: Creates an elegant contemporary contrast, ideal for highlighting the growth rings and fossilized veins.
  • Brushed gold: Adds a touch of classic luxury that speaks to the sink's museum-piece character.

How to Care for Your Petrified Wood Sink

  • Regular cleaning: A soft cloth or gentle sponge with water and mild soap keeps the surface clean without harming the fossilized structure.
  • Avoid harsh products: Never use acids, bleach, solvents or abrasive products; they can damage the surface and compromise the fossilized structure.
  • Dry after use: Avoid standing water to preserve the natural sheen and prevent stains.
  • Periodic sealing: Apply a sealer made specifically for marble every 6 to 12 months to protect against moisture and liquid absorption.
  • Watch out for pigmented substances: Makeup, creams and colored soaps can penetrate the stone and cause permanent stains; clean immediately after contact.
  • Do not use rough sponges: Choose soft cloths to avoid scratching the polished interior.
  • Impact protection: Although durable (hardness similar to quartz), the fossilized material can chip or crack under strong impacts; avoid drops or knocks with heavy objects.

Expert tip: Petrified wood has a unique mineral composition (silica and quartz) that makes it more durable than most marbles and granites. Even so, we recommend applying a sealer made specifically for natural stone every 6 months to keep the fossilized veins looking vivid and protected. To bring out the beauty of the growth rings in the polished interior, wipe with a cloth slightly dampened with water after cleaning; the temporary moisture intensifies the colors and patterns of the fossil.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Petrified Wood Sink

Is this petrified wood sink suitable for daily use?

Yes. Petrified wood has a hardness similar to quartz and is more durable than most marbles and granites. With simple cleaning (water and mild soap) and sealing twice a year, the sink keeps its ancient beauty for decades. After all, the stone has already existed for more than 20 million years!

What is the delivery time for this sink?

This piece is in stock at our showroom in Londrina, Brazil. Crating and FedEx collection take 3 to 7 business days after payment confirmation; international transit is usually 2 to 10 business days depending on the destination. Import duties and taxes are included in the price (DDP) — nothing extra to pay on delivery.

Are the growth rings, veins and knots defects?

No, they are the very essence of the fossil! The growth rings, knots, veins and variations in tone are natural, valuable characteristics of petrified wood; they attest to the authenticity of the stone and make each piece absolutely unique. It is precisely this fossilized pattern that makes the piece a collector's rarity.

Can my vanity top support the sink's weight of 37 kg (82 lb)?

Yes. Granite, solid wood, marble and concrete vanity tops easily support this weight. Good-quality MDF tops do as well, provided they are at least 25 mm (1 in) thick. We recommend checking with your cabinetmaker before installation.

Can I install this sink in a covered outdoor area?

Yes, but with care. Travertine marble is resistant to temperature changes, but it is more porous than basalt, so we recommend FULLY covered areas (terraces and indoor spas). Avoid direct exposure to rain, strong sun or constant humidity. For outdoor use, seal more often (every 6 months).

Does this sink come with a drain and P-trap included?

No. The sink is supplied without a drain or P-trap. We recommend a 1 1/4" drain. Marmer Butik offers a line of complementary fittings and drains; contact our team on WhatsApp +55 43 99869-4037.
